On February 4th, Argentina recovered its status as foot and mouth disease-free through the application of vaccinations in the area that has been under surveillance. The area is made up of what is called the Border Zone, on the border with Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay.

The general director of the OIE, Bernard Vallat, informed the president of the National Health and Food Safety Service (Senasa), Jorge Amaya, of the measure, by way of a note sent from Paris which clarifies that the area recognized as disease free must be kept separate from the area under surveillance. This implies the implementation of distinct disease control and surveillance activities.

The recuperation of the disease free status also reaches to the surveillance areas in Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay, since the presentation before the OIE was a joint one.
