Argentina-Russia: possible increase of Argentine exports of pork to Russia

There is a distinct possibility of pork export increase due to cessation of pork export from the EU to Russia because of ASF outbreak.

Basic issues on preparation of the next commission meeting planned to be held in Moscow on September 15-16 were discussed at the meeting between Sergey Dankvert and Carlos Bianko, Cochairmen of the Argentina-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation

The participants also summarized implementation of agreements of the last commission meeting. It was mentioned that export of a range of products was mutually beneficial for Russia and Argentina.

Speaking about the possibility of commodity circulation increase between the two countries the parties mentioned that for several years bilateral trade had been developing but according to the Russian Custom’s statistics in 2012 there was decrease in commodity circulation by 16% and in 2013 by 4,5% more.

The parties specified main trends of development including export of dairy products, including cheese and butter, as well as fish and sea products, from Argentina. This year apples and pears are also in demand. There is a distinct possibility of pork export increase due to cessation of pork export from the EU to Russia because of ASF outbreak. Possibilities of offal export and increase in Argentinean meat export are quite promising. Besides, Sergey Dankvert mentioned the demand in live cattle export for fattening, semen and bovine embryos which had lately arisen. Herewith, he remarked that it was necessary to agree on measures for exported animal health control in order to provide live cattle export safety. It was agreed to organize a seminar on FMD in order to exchange experience and examine the disease situation in Argentina.
