According to data from Argentina's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, pork exports set a record in June, with 4,454 tonnes (product weight) sold at a value of US$6.7 million.
Shipments in the first half of the year showed a 55% increase year-on-year, totaling 17,856 tons with a value of US$26 million. The main destination was China, followed by Russia and Hong Kong.
Likewise, pork production rose 5.7% between January and June, compared to the same period last year, driven mainly by heavier live weights and, to a lesser extent, by the increase in the number of heads slaughtered.
According to data estimated by the under secretary of Livestock and Animal Production, consumption reached an all-time high in June, at 16.16 kg/capita/year; while the average for the first half of 2020 (14.04 kg/capita/year) is almost at the same level as 2019 for the same period.
