The National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (SENASA), the Ministry of Modernisation of the Nation, and chambers of the meat industry assessed the functioning of the veterinary inspection services (SIV) at the refrigerated slaughterhouses, and they studied the next lines of work in the context of the process launched by the presidency of the nation during a meeting in the seat of the health organisation.
“The meeting was very positive because we expounded the sensitivity of the veterinary inspection services when it comes to their modernisation, because they have an essential role as guarantors of the harmlessness of the food that reaches the consumers, and in the certification of the exports,” Mr Rossi pointed out. The vice president of the SENASA underlined that “the veterinary inspection services are an investment. Their weakening or outsourcing becomes a transference of costs to the private sector, and therefore, the potential risks are very high regarding the loss of markets, so difficult to negotiate and open.”
The participants agreed on carrying on with the work meetings to evaluate future lines of action that optimise the number of staff of the veterinary inspection services without damaging their non-transferrable role in the export of food and the protection of the consumers’ public health.
