Argentina: Pork exports continue to rise in 2024

Exports

  • At the end of the first half of the year, pork exports increased by 25.7% compared to the same period in 2023, going from 5,330 to 6,699 tons (t). Likewise, their value (USD 5.9 million) increased by 24% in the period under analysis.
  • In June, 1,413 t of pork were exported, an increase of 45.5% compared to the same month of 2023 and up 17.6% compared to May.

Imports

  • Pork imports in the first half of the year totaled 5,239 t, valued at USD 16.5 million, a 55.5% drop in volume compared to the same period of 2023.
  • In June, the imported product totaled 476 tons, a decrease of 69.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and down 2.3% compared to May.

Trade balance

  • The sustained increase in pork exports and the significant drop in pork imports continue to favor the gradual reduction of the trade balance deficit for the sector.
  • In June, the deficit was just USD 0.5 million, while the cumulative figure for the year was USD 10.7 million, 66.9% lower than the deficit recorded in the first half of 2023 (USD 32.3 million).
