According to the RTBF, the Belgian Meat Federation (FEBEV) first informed about six countries: South Korea, China, Taiwan, Belarus, Mexico and The Philippines; but the Federal Agency for the Food Chain Safety (AFSCA) has informed about nine countries, because South Africa, Japan and Singapore have joined this list. The AFSCA also informs that this list is dynamic and that it can still change.

This stop in Belgian pork exports entails a hard blow for the sector. “China and South Korea represent some 45% of the exports to third countries”, Mr Michael Gore, the Managing director of the FEBEV, declared. The Philippines are also an important market, and this discontinuation has beeen decided “after the recent approval”, regrets Mr Gore.

Regarding feed, Ukraine, South Korea, China, Belarus and Serbia have also decided to cancel the imports from Belgium, according to the Federation of Agriculture of Wallonia (FWA), based on information provided by the Belgian Feed Association (BFA).
