Next Monday, January 25, 2021, the Ministerial Decree authorizing the restocking of pig farms in the areas affected by ASF, in the province of Luxembourg, will be published and come into force immediately. Pig farmers in the Gaumais area, who had to slaughter their pigs as a precautionary measure in 2018, will be able to resume their activities as of that date.
In addition to this restocking authorization, this Ministerial Decree allows another return to normalcy that affects the entire Belgian pig industry: it will again be possible, in compliance with ad hoc biosecurity rules and measures, to load pigs from different origins on the same vehicle, both pigs intended for slaughter and breeding stock. It will also be possible to unload breeding pigs on different farms.
The announcement of the restocking in southern Belgium also serves as an opportunity to remind people that surveillance is still in place. The monitoring and biosecurity measures, in place at any given time as well as those implemented in September 2018 to protect the sector from any contamination, are also still in place in Belgium.
