Last week, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China issued a decree that will entail a greater surveillance of the vehicles that transport live pigs with the aim of controlling the spreading of African swine fever. According to the results of the epidemiologic survey, the long-distance transport of pigs is the main reason for the spreading of the disease.
Among other things, the requirements for the registration of vehicles for transporting pigs has been clarified, the vehicles that transport pigs through the regions must be equipped with GPS and tracking systems, the transport of pigs shall fulfil the corresponding requirements for the prevention of animal epidemics both regarding the kind of vehicles (having corrosion-resistant and leak-free walls and floors, as well as being easy to clean and sterilise) and the obligations of cleaning and disinfecting them.
