The favourable results obtained after four weeks of intensive investigations that confirm the absence of cases of African swine fever in the wild boars found dead in the French-Belgian border allow to reduce the sections in the surveillance areas and to lessen the restrictions both in the strengthened surveillance area (SSA) and the surveillance area (SA).

The SSA is now limited to 53* municipalities in Ardennes, Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle, that are located less than 10 km away from the infected area in Belgium, whilst the surveillance area, whose limits have also been reviewed, does no longer include the department of Moselle, and now comprises 60* municipalities.

To prevent any risk of of introduction of the virus in this SSA, it has been decided to reduce the wild boar populations significantly. Precautions will be taken regarding the shootings, and the drives will be carried out without dogs in order to avoid the movements of wild boars on both sides of the border, knowing that the departmental hunters' federations placed fences this week.

Since last Saturday, certain hunting activities have been newly authorised in the SSA, and they are strictly subject to the scrupulous fulfilment of the biosecurity measures. Training will be provided to the hunters regarding these matters. The forestry activities can also be resumed in the SSA, but also subject to the fulfilment of the biosecurity measures.

The limits of the surveillance area (SA) are also redefined. This area affects 60* municipalities in the three previously mentioned departments. All the restrictions on hunting and other activities in the forests are lifted.
