The first white zone is about to be completed: just under twelve of a total of 125 fence kilometers still have to be built, then the double fencing of the core area around the first site at Neuzelle in the Oder-Spree district will be closed. The area has since been searched several times for fallen game. In Oder-Spree alone, around 100 members of the German armed forces have provided support over the past few weeks. An area of 176 square kilometers was searched and the soldiers covered around 30,000 kilometers.
“I am glad that the preparations were carried out so thoroughly and on a large scale and that the first white zone will soon be completed. As soon as the inner ring is finally closed, we start removing the wild boars. In addition, the restrictions in agriculture and forestry within the fenced area can then be gradually lifted. We voted on this today in the crisis team. So that these steps happen as seamlessly as possible, we will coordinate the decisions discussed with the districts in the coming days so that the necessary orders can be issued there,” said the head of the crisis team, State Secretary for Consumers Anna Heyer-Stuffer.
In addition to state veterinarian Stephan Nickisch and members of the responsible ministries for consumer protection and agriculture MSGIV and MLUK, representatives of interest groups from agriculture, hunting, and pig farming were also present at the meeting of the regional crisis team.
