Following confirmed outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar in neighboring districts, the National Reference Laboratory, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), has now also detected ASF in a wild boar in the district of Dahme-Spreewald for the first time.
The location of the carcass is within the already defined core area 3, which includes parts of the Oder-Spree and Dahme-Spreewald districts (about 2,100 hectares). The infected carcass is from a wild boar found northeast of Trebitz (Lieberose), in the immediate vicinity of the Oder-Spree district border.
Given that the new finding is within the existing core area, modifying the restriction zones already established in the Dahme-Spreewald district is not necessary.
In Brandenburg, ASF has been detected in a total of 668 wild boars (as of February 19, 2021):
- District of Spree-Neiße: 50
- District of Oder-Spree: 406
- District of Märkisch-Oderland: 211
- District of Dahme-Spreewald: 1
