An essential prerequisite for the success of wild boar fencing is that the wild boar population is reduced as much as possible both within the permanent double fences (white zones) and in the ASF protection corridor along the German-Polish border. The expense compensation was introduced in March to remunerate hunters' efforts to remove wild boars from the white zones. With the increased payment, the expenses incurred by hunters will be better compensated. In addition, compensation for finding carcasses will also be extended to the protection corridor along the border.
For hunting and turning in a wild boar in a core zone, a white zone, or the ASF protection corridor, the districts and municipalities grant compensation of EUR 150 per animal.
For locating and reporting the location of carcasses, including due to accidents, the following compensations are given:
- Core zone, white zone, or ASF protection corridor: 150 €/animal.
- Danger zone: 100 €/animal.
- Buffer zone: 100 €/animal.
Currently, more than one-third of the total 280 kilometers of the ASF protection corridor consisting of a second permanent fence along the border with Poland has been completed.
In Brandenburg, ASF has been detected in a total of 1,791 wild boars (as of October 5, 2021):
- District of Spree-Neiße: 273
- District of Oder-Spree: 860
- District of Märkisch-Oderland: 281
- District of Dahme-Spreewald: 77
- Frankfurt (Oder): 275
- District of Barnim: 23
- District of Uckermark: 2
