The National Reference Laboratory, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), has confirmed the presence of African swine fever (ASF) in five wild boar carcasses in the city of Frankfurt (Oder), Brandenburg. Three of them were found east of the permanent fence on the Oder river and the other two were fround west of the permanent fence in the Buschmühlenweg area, north and south of the A12.
The authorities proceeded to implement the necessary measures, such as closing the area with an electric fence along the Buschmühlenweg and the B112. Due to new positive cases in the Buschmühlenweg area, a new core area will be defined.
Update on the number of cases
Eight months after the first ASF outbreak in the wild boar population in Germany, a total of 1,194 cases have been confirmed.
There are currently a total of 1,000 confirmed ASF cases in wild boar in the state of Brandenburg:
- Spree-Neisse District 74
- Oder-Spree District 568
- Märkisch-Oderland District 249
- Dahme-Spreewald District 72
- Frankfurt (Oder) 37
As of today, there are 194 confirmed ASF cases in Saxony.
To date, domestic pig populations in Germany are free of ASF.
