The National Reference Laboratory, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), has confirmed two new cases of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar in Saxony (Görlitz district), bringing the total number of positive cases to 19.
One of the carcasses found was outside the risk area but within the existing buffer zone, about 2 km west of the Rothenburg/Görlitz airfield and about 3.5 km from the Neisse. Since the new location lies outside the risk area, the restriction zones should be extended.
Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping: "First of all, we will close off the new location with a mobile electric fence with a radius of two to three kilometers to prevent any more infected animals from dispersing. We will quickly expand the existing risk area and buffer zone. Currently, the existing risk area is completely enclosed with permanent fencing, except for a few kilometers. The new extension of the risk area will also be fenced as soon as possible."
