Restricted zone III was established on 8 July 2022 after the detection of African swine fever (ASF) in a fattening pig farm with 1,000 pigs in the district of Uckermark (Brandenburg).
No connection between the ASF outbreak in the pig farm and the wild boar population has been demostrated. All samples tested for ASF in restricted zone III have been negative. Therefore, Brandenburg requested the EU Commission to shorten the duration of the restricted zone III from 12 months to 3 months and, consequently, its lifting on 8 October 2022. Finally, the EU Commission has approved the request of Brandenburg.
