After confirming a positive case of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boar outside the risk area but within the existing buffer zone in the district of Görlitz, the State of Saxony has extended the restriction zones in order to contain the spread of the disease.

To this end, the State has published general decrees defining the new areas, both the risk area and the buffer zone, as well as the measures to be applied within them.

The risk area extends southward to the municipality of Horka, increasing the area from 157 to 322 square kilometers. The buffer zone now extends to the entire district of Görlitz north of the A4, increasing from 605 to 826 square kilometers.

There are currently 19 confirmed ASF cases in Saxony. The total number of ASF cases in Brandenburg (585 confirmed cases) and Saxony now stands at 604.

To date, domestic pig populations in Germany are free of ASF.
