MARA released the “three-year action plan to accelerate the recovery and development of pig production on 4 December. The plan aims to: curb the decline of the pig inventory and stop soaring pig price before the end of 2019; ensure the pork market supply stabilized during the next New Year’s Day (25 January) and during the annual national plenary sessions in March 2020; recover production capacity near average year by the end of 2020; and achieve full recovery by 2021.
A few of the many tasks listed include:
- Support construction of large-scale pig farms
- Secure land for pig farming
- Assist small and medium-sized farmers through linking, franchising, or leasing with large pig production enterprises.
- Promote environmental impact assessment
- Strengthening prevention and control of major animal diseases such as ASF; establish and improve animal disease risk management systems
- Support establishment of disease-free zones / communities. Set up ASF hotline for reporting.
Currently MARA is asking provinces / regions / cities to submit detailed plans. Following assessment.
