Although Russia has been detecting cases of african swine fever (ASF) since 2007, during the last years the disease has spread quickly, with an important increase in the number of outbreaks and dispersion in the different regions of this country, as we can see in the following charts and maps.
Although in 2014 the total number of outbreaks was 73 (30 in domestic pigs and 43 in wild boars) and in 2015 there were 91 (47 in domestic pigs and 44 in wild boars), so far this year, with a significant increase in the number of outbreaks since June, the total number of outbrekas amount 251, with 194 affecting domestic pigs and 57 in wild boars. Also, several outbreaks have been confirmed in commercial farms with an important number of susceptible animals, as in the case of the last outbreak confirmed by the OIE on a farm with more than 38,000 animals located in the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic.

Regarding the location of the outbreaks, the following maps show how so far this year the disease has spread, specially towards the north of the Federation, with the appearance of 38 outbreaks on backyard farms in the oblasts of Arkhangelsk, Vologda and Saratov, 28 of which in the oblast of Arkhangelsk, where no outbreaks of the disease had yet appeared.
