Since the first confirmation of African swine fever in Vietnam last February, the disease has spread through all the country. Although it started in the northern provinces, it soon spread towards the south, especially in the eastern and southeastern provinces.
According to the last report drafted by the Department of Animal Health, outbreaks have been confirmed in 52 provinces and towns, with the total number of culled pigs exceeding 2.2 million heads.
In a conference held last June 4th, the Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Phung Duc Tien, said that although in some towns the implementation of policies for the support and prevention of the disease has produced good results, there are still difficulties and deficiencies that greatly affect the efficacy in the prevention and control of the disease. The Vice Minister, Mr Tien, said that some towns have not paid enough attention and have neglected the prevention and control of the epidemics.
