On January 15, South Korea confirmed the first case of African swine fever (ASF) in the Gyeongbuk region which occurred on a pig farm with about 480 animals located in Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk- do. Previously, ASF was reported only reported in the Gyeonggi and Gangwon regions.

Among the biosecurity measures taken, detailed inspections will be conducted on four pig farms within the quarantine zone (within a 10 km radius of the affected farm) and 40 pig farms with an epidemiological relationship with the outbreak farm.
