On September 25, the World Organisation for Animal Health posted an update regarding the African swine fever (ASF) situation in Sweden. In total, samples from 41 wild boars have been positive for ASF in the infected zone, up to and including September 24, 2023. Four cases have been found in Norberg and the remaining cases were in Fagersta.
An infected zone has been established and all necessary measures according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/687 are being applied. In accordance with the WOAH Terrestrial Animal Health Code, Article 15.1.4.3, Sweden is still considered to be free from ASF in domestic pigs and captive wild pigs, as the confirmed and suspected cases are wild suidae.
