Nguyen Xuan Cuong of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported that more than 90% of communes in Vietnam have gone over 30 days without reporting new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF). However, with small scale productions, biosecurity is not thorough, so authorities are watchful for ASF to return.
From February 2019 to present, ASF has been detected in 8,548 communes in 667 districts of 63 provinces and cities with a total of 6 million pigs culled; with a total weight of 342,091 tons (accounting for about 9.0% of the country's total weight of pigs).
Currently, there are 8,200 communes (accounting for 96% of the total number of epidemic communes) that have passed 30 days without new cases. Of which, 30 provinces and cities have 100% of their communes that have passed 30 days, and in 29 provinces and cities, over 85% of communes have passed 30 days.
