ASF Vietnam: Hanoi has culled more than 20% of its pig census

More than 387,500 pigs infected with African swine fever (ASF) have been culled in Hanoi, this representing 20.7% of the total pigs raised.

From June 10th to 16th, 1,839 ASF outbreaks were detected in four districts of Hanoi, causing the death of 33,751 pigs, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

On the other hand, until Sunday, June 16th, this epidemics has affected 67 farms with more than 200 pigs each, with 5,197 being the largest number of pigs being culled on a single farm.

The towns that had to cull the largest number of animals were Soc Son (65,983 pigs), Dong Anh (38,894), Quoc Oai (28,503) and Chuong My (26,337).

In a recent official telegram, the Prime Minister, Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc, requested the mobilisation of all the strength of the political system to prevent and fight ASF.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the disease has been recorded in 3,000 communes in 52 out of the 63 cities and provinces.
