The State Government's new Agribusiness Council has put the well-documented flood of pork imports high on its strategic battle plan.
At its first meeting in Adelaide on Friday, the council targeted ways to push more Australian-grown processed pork onto the market to compete with cheap imports.
Agriculture Minister Michael O'Brien said substituting imports with local produce was precisely the sort of high-end topic the council had been formed to address. "This is the first time there has been such a group of high-calibre, high-level business-people brought together to talk about issues confronting agriculture in South Australia," he said.
