A simulation exercise entitled “Exercise Ham Strung” will be conducted in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia from 30 April to 1 May 2024 using an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak scenario as the basis.

The Queensland Farmers Federation will lead the exercise in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Exercise participants will include government staff, pig industry representative organizations (Australian Pork Limited and Queensland Pork Inc.), personnel from major pork production and processing companies, and industry supply chain organizations.

The objectives of the exercise are to assess the impacts on a major abattoir and on supply chain movements and how these impacts can be mitigated and discuss the use of theoretical and/or practical measures to rapidly stop disease spread.
