Due to the presence of African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks, the Minister of Economy of Belarus, Mr. Nicholas Snapkou, informed that the population of pigs dropped by 20% on the industrial pig farms and up to by half on the small-sized farms.
This so drastic drop in production has entailed a significant rise in the prices, which have increased more than in other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Kazakhstan). For instance, the price of neck meat almost doubled in a month, going from BYR93,000/kg (US$8.89/kg) to BYR175,000/kg (US$16.8/kg).
