The buy-out scheme to compensate pig producers for reducing or entirely closing their production capacity aims to reduce nitrogen emissions in the agricultural sector.
In June it appeared that only 236 of the 980 pig farmers eligible for the buy-out scheme had submitted an application file. As a result, the planned budget of 200 million euros had not yet been fully spent and it was decided to relax the scheme so that up to 3,000 pig farmers could also apply.
The Flemish government approved the decision so the impact score threshold will be lowered from 0.5 percent to 0.025 percent for eligibility. Approximately 80% of Flemish pig farmers are now eligible for the buy-out scheme.
