The Ministers of Agriculture and Economy of Belgium, Willy Borsus and Kris Peeters, met last December with the organizations representing the chain; during this meeting, the implementation of emergency measures was agreed unanimously against the backdrop of the crisis that affects the pig sector. The measures shall be made known to the authorities of both Belgian and European competition.

This agreement envisages the creation of a voluntary fund by pork marketing. The goal is to collect €15 M, according to a calculation base of 0.15 €/kg of fresh pork sold in order to help pork producers.

The agreement was conditional upon a minimum pre-funding of € 7.5 M from the sectors represented. Finally, the whole chain (commerce, agricultural organizations, slaughterhouses, processors and compound feed sector) is committed and has helped make the pre-financing possible.
