Pig farmers will have extra time until June 17 to sign up for the voluntary buy-out scheme. This was announced by Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir. The Flemish Land Agency (VLM) has so far received 53 applications and has been contacted by more than 300 interested parties.

Registrations for the pig barn closure scheme started on April 3, 2023. Pig farmers originally had 45 days to submit their dossier.

All farms with an impact score higher than 0.5% can make use of the scheme. In total, this concerns 970 companies, estimates VLM.
