Given the current swine sector crisis, the Belgian association of pig producers known as VEVA, has set out a proposal for restructuring the Belgian sector, financed by the sector, which has been presented to the Belgian minister Kris Peeters.

VEVA proposes the voluntary reduction of sows by 20%, going from 500.000 actual sows to 400.000. Each sow slaughtered would receive a compensation of 650 € which would be defrayed by the industry through an obligatory contribution per fattening pig slaughtered.
