Brazil Minister of Agriculture, Katia Abreu, met last week with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis in order to negotiate an agreement with the European Community to facilitate bilateral understandings on sanitary and phytosanitary issues. The aim is to harmonize rules and open markets.
Commissioner Andriukaitis acknowledged that Brazil is a strategic partner, and agreed to open negotiations for a veterinary and phytosanitary agreement. The document "will be good for building confidence between the parties," he said.
Minister Abreu expressed her support for Brazilian meat exports, especially pork and beef.
