According ABIPECS data, per capita consumption of pork last year was 15.1 kg. This consumption, which had remained stable over the past years, increased by approximately 1.5 kg in 2011.
Despite this increase, the consumption of pork in Brazil is far from major consuming countries such as the European Union, where the annual per capita consumption is around 40.2 kg.
ABIPECS expects to see another increase in the consumption of pork in 2012 due in part to the rising price of beef.
