According to data published by the Brazilian Association of Industrial Production and Export of Beef and Pork (ABIPECS, for its acronym in Portuguese), despite a slight recovery in sales of beef to Russia and the limitations imposed by Argentina, exports of pork from Brazil increased by 6.93% in volume in March compared with March 2011, and 3.02% in value.
So far this year, during this first quarter the sales increase was 3.45% in tons and 0.73% in revenue, compared to the first quarter last year.
Brazil exported 47,367 tons in March worth $ 121.01 million while from January to March it amounted to 122,249 tons, valued at $ 313,360,000.
Hong Kong remains the main destination for Brazilian pork, with a 30% share of total exports. From January to March, the volume exported to Hong Kong was 36,746 tons with a turnover of 88.97 million dollars, representing an increase of 54.48% in tons and 75.34% in value over the same period the previous year.
Russia continues as the third destination, behind Hong Kong and the Ukraine. Sales to the Russian market during the first quarter of this year reached 16,379 tons and 50.85 million dollars, down 64.38% in volume and 63.22% in revenues compared to the same period last year.
