According to the estimates of the CONAB (Companhia Nacional do Abastecimiento [National Company for Supply]) for the 2013/2014 campaign, the production of cereals in Brazil will reach 195.46 million tonnes: an increase by 6.80 million tonnes, that corresponds to a growth by 3.6% with respect to the previous year, with a harvest of 188.65 million tonnes.
Soya, that showed a rise by 4.62 million tonnes (+ 5.7%), reaching 86.12 million tonnes, was the most prominent cereal of the season. The production of wheat has also grown by 2.14 million tonnes (+ 38.7%), reaching 7.66 million tonnes. This increase is due to the rise by 21.4% of the sowed surface. In the case of the total maize (first and second harvests), the productions has dropped by 1.6 million tonnes, which corresponds to a loss of 2%, going from 81.5 million to 79.9 million tonnes, due, especially, to the drop in the first harvest.
