Brazil has increased its pig meat exportations by more than 600% in the last 15 years

Brazil exported 81,565 tonnes of pig meat in 1998, whilst in 2012 it exported 581,477 tonnes - an increase by more than 600%.

In the last 15 years, Brazil has increased its pig meat exportations by more than 600% and production by more than 40%, according to a press notice from the Brazilian sectorial ABIPECS.

Brazil exported 81,565 tonnes of pig meat in 1998, whilst in 2012 it exported 581,477 tonnes - an increase by more than 600%.

Regarding production, in 1998 it was 2.49 million tonnes. In 2012, Brazil produced 3.89 million tonnes - an increase by 40.2%.

Currently, Brazilian pig meat is present in 69 markets, and it holds the fourth place in the world ranking of producing and exporting countries. In 1998, when ABIPECS was created, the Brazilian pig meat exportation was concentrated in Argentina, Hong Kong and Uruguay, and these three markets represented 95% of the Brazilian exportations. At present, the ten main destinations for the Brazilian pig meat (that include Russia, Hong Kong, Ukraine, Angola, Singapore and Uruguay) represent 81% of the Brazilian exportations.
