Brazil increases pig slaughter in fourth quarter of 2021

Pig slaughter in Brazil increased by 5.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020. But compared to the third quarter of 2021, it decreased by 3.2%.

According to preliminary results of the Quarterly Livestock Surveys conducted in Brazil, 13.29 million pigs were slaughtered in the fourth quarter of 2021. This represents an increase of 5.8% when compared to the same quarter of 2020. On the other hand, when compared to the third quarter of 2021, slaughter decreased by 3.2%.

Carcass weight was 1.21 million tons in the fourth quarter of 2021, which was an increase of 7.9% compared to the fourth quarter of 2020 and a decrease of 4.8% compared to the third quarter of 2021.
