The Brazilian government has announced that the Cuban authorities have recognized the equivalence of health inspection systems, specifically for Brazilian exports of dairy products, beef, pork, poultry, and seafood.
In effect, Cuba's National Animal Health Centre (CENASA) is granting Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) authorization to certify and qualify establishments audited by CENASA in 2022 and 2023, as well as other production units, provided the established requirements are met.
The new system, which will initially be valid for two years, with the prospect of renewal, reduces the bureaucracy of access to the Cuban market for new plants by eliminating the need for on-site inspections. The procedure known as "pre-listing" attests to the high level of confidence in national health control, whose rigor is recognized by the more than 150 countries that consume the Brazilian products in question.
In 2022, Brazil exported USD 57.9 million in animal protein, dairy products, and fish to Cuba, the equivalent of 43,300 tons of food. Between January and September 2023, it exported more than USD 38 million worth of the same products, equivalent to 27,300 tons of food.
