Brazil: Pork exports see incredible growth in 2020

China continues to be the main receiver and the state of Santa Catarina remains the main Brazilian exporter.

Brazilian cumulative exports of pork (considering all products, meat and processed) in 2020, have seen an increase of 40.4%, at 853,400 tons, according to information collected by the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). In the first 10 months of 2019, the volume exported was 607,700 tons.

In terms of turnover, this year increased by 48.5%, with US$ 1.876 billion in 2020, against US$ 1.264 billion in the first 10 months of the previous year.

Among the five largest importers of pork, China remains the main destination, receiving 423,200 tons in the first ten months of 2020, +123% than in the same period of the previous year. In the same comparison period, Hong Kong imported 143,100 tons (+10%). Singapore and Vietnam were destinations of 45,500 tons (+57%) and 36,900 tons (+222%) respectively. Chile, in fifth place, imported 33,500 tons (-10%).

"Sales to Asia continue to be sustained, especially to those destinations that have African swine fever problems. The trend is to continue, pointing to total projections of 1 million tons exported by Brazil in the 12 months of this year," says Ricardo Santin, President of ABPA.

Considering exports by state, Santa Catarina remains the main exporter of the sector, with 435,700 tons between January and October, +51.6% than in 2019. In second place, Rio Grande do Sul exported 215,600 tons in the same period (+25,5%). In third place, Paraná exported 117,400 tons in the first 10 months of the year (+13.9%).
