According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Brazilian pork exports (considering all products, fresh and processed) reached 67.4 thousand tonnes in February. This is a record figure for February and is 24.7% higher than the volume exported during the same month in 2019 (54.1 thousand tonnes).
"The average price of exports remains high, driven by strong Asian demand for animal protein. The impact of ASF in China and Vietnam kept the flow of exports high, at atypical levels for the period," says Ricardo Santin, ABPA's executive director.
China, the main export destination, increased its purchases by 161% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 31 thousand tonnes exported in February.
"Logistical problems specific to the control of COVID-19 did not have a significant effect on the final balance of Brazilian exports. Logistical adjustments guaranteed shipments to the Chinese market. The Chinese government prioritizes the transit of foodstuffs," assessed Francisco Turra, president of ABPA.
Japan also increased its purchase of Brazilian pork (678 tonnes in February, +239% compared to February 2019).
