By the end of August, a meeting was held between technicians of the Agriculture and Livestock Defense Secretariat (SDA) of Brazil and representatives of the National Union of Animal Feed Industries (Sindirações), the National Union of the Animal Health Products Industry (SINDAN), the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), the Agriculture and Stockbreeding Confederation of Brazil (CNA) and the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine (CFMV), during which the new National Strategy on antimicrobial resistance, which is expected to be ready in May 2017, was discussed.

During the meeting, the authorities requested the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) to move forward regarding the National Strategy in an integrated and multisectorial way, in line with the recommendations of the international organisations. The different representatives declared that they are in a position to contribute, together with the MAPA, to the survey of the analysis of the situation in order to define the deficiencies and difficulties and to establish the priorities for the correct preparation of the National Strategy.
