Decree No. 12.031 was published on May 29, regulating the mandatory inspection and supervision of products intended for animal feed. As a result, animal feed is the first segment regulated by agricultural defense to update its health legislation to make it compatible with the Self-Control Law (Law No. 14.515/2022).

The new standard, which has been eagerly awaited by the sector, covers all types of animal feed products from raw materials and ingredients to ready-to-feed products for all production species and companion animals.

The inspection of animal feed products was first regulated in Brazil in 1976 and updated in 2007.

Brazil is currently the third-largest global producer of animal feed products, the third-largest exporter of pet food, and the second-largest producer of animal meal.
