Santa Catarina ended 2017 with good figures regarding meat exports. In total, this Brazilian state exported more than 1.34 million tonnes of meat to some 130 countries, generating an income exceeding USD2,600 million. In 2017, 40.4% of the meat exported from Brazil was produced in Santa Catarina.
Santa Catarina is the greatest pig producer in Brazil, and it has a differentiated health status. In 2017, Santa Catarina sold 276,500 tonnes of pork to more than 50 countries: an increase by 0.8% with respect to 2016. The income generated with the exports was also greater, exceeding USD639.2 million (15% more than in 2016). The main buyers of the pork produced in Santa Catarina were Russia, China, Hong Kong, Chile and Argentina.
