Although the last outbreaks of CSF (Classical swine fever) recorded in the state of Bahian occurred two decades ago, aiming to leverage pork exports, Bahia, through the ADAB (State Agricultural Defense Agency), led the first national debate on the development of the Strategic Plan for Brazil Free of Classical Swine Fever in states that still had outbreaks of the disease.

The initiative looks to prevent CSF from spreading throughout Brazil, since Bahia is a natural barrier due to its geographical position and complies with all health controls so that the disease does not reach the state or reach other territories in the country, ensuring better productivity and national exports.

Bahia maintains a cooperation agreement with Alagoas, Piauí, and Pernambuco for the development of joint actions, in case of outbreaks in these states. The implementation of the Strategic Plan aims to curb the risks of new outbreaks and further stimulate exports.

The control and eradication of CSF in the Non-Free Zone of Brazil, which is comprised of the states of Alagoas, Amapá, Amazonas, Ceará, Maranhão, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, and Roraima should protect the current Free Zone and commercialization of pork, in addition to strengthening the actions of the Official Veterinary Service (SVO) in the development of actions and surveillance of diseases that affect animals.
