A task force of veterinarians from the European Union is visiting Brazil with the aim of carrying out inspections in meat (beef, fowl and pork) producing companies until May 12th. Divided in three groups, six veterinarians will visit the states Paraná, Goiás, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Mato Grosso.
The European veterinarians have already visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supplies (MAPA) of Brazil, where they have received more information about the measures adopted to guarantee food safety after the Federal Police operation "Carne Fraca". One of the measures of the Ministry was to suspend the export certification of the establishments that will be audited in this visit.
The inspectors have determined, together with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock Defense (SDA), the establishments to be visited. The visits to the Regional Superintendences of the Ministry of (SFA) of Goiás, Paraná and Santa Catarina have started.
According to Mr. Luis Rangel, of the SDA, the audit has two goals: obtain more information on the evolution of the police operation and carry out the routine annual audit that guarantees the renewal of the permits of the Brazilian establishments that export to the EU.
