Despite the Russian embargo, international sales increased. The June 2nd announcement of the embargo starting on the 15th led importers and exporters to anticipate very high sales and exportations during the first half of the month.
In June sales to Russia reached 24.664 tons and 77,85 million dollars, which supposes a 19,59% increase in volume and 36,01% in value compared with June of 2010. Sales to Hong Kong and Argentina, the second and third destination for Brazilian pork after Russia, also increased. In the case of Hong Kong sales reached 9.695 tons (an 8,64% increase in volume) while in Argentina sales were up to 2.473 tons (a 27% increase in volume). On the other hand, exportation to the Ukraine decreased by 23,72% in volume (3.205 tons, in comparison with 4.202 tons in June of 2010).
