The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) projects a 4% growth in pig production in Brazil in 2022, compared to 2021, surpassing 4.8 million tons produced.
The state of Paraná stands out among the three largest pig producers, with production growing and breaking records year after year.
In 2021, Paraná produced 20.5% of Brazil's total pigs. The state stands in second place according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The leader is Santa Catarina, responsible for 28.5% of the production, and the third-largest producer is Rio Grande do Sul, with 17.5%.
The most recent data for Paraná are from the quarterly slaughter of animals ascertained by the IBGE. As of September 2021, Paraná produced 767,000 tons of pork. It was the highest production on record between July and September 2021. Paraná had a 9.2% increase compared to the same quarter in 2020.
Now, with the Foot and Mouth Disease free status assigned to the cattle herd, the positive effects on the pork value are starting to gain momentum.
