According to preliminary first-quarter slaughter data published by IBGE, pork production in Brazil fell 1% in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. Total produced fell from 1.29 to 1.28 million tons.

On the other hand, first-quarter exports saw a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to Agrostat/MAPA information. The increase occurred because despite the significant reduction in exports to China (-37%), the leading destination for Brazilian pork, which has been recovering its swine inventory after the decline caused by African swine fever in 2018, other important trading partners increased their purchases, such as the Philippines (+105%), Chile (+24%), Japan (112%), and Angola (+46%).
