Brazil's pig slaughter fell in first quarter

Preliminary results for first-quarter animal production show that pig slaughter totaled 13.92 million head in the first quarter of 2024, representing a 1.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, pig slaughter fell by 1.6%. Accumulated carcass weight was 1.28 million tons in the first quarter of 2024, down 1.0% from the first quarter of 2023 and 1.6% from the previous quarter.
