Brazil: Pig slaughter increases compared to the same period last year

Santa Catarina continues to lead the way in pig slaughter, with 29.1% of the national share, followed by Paraná (21.9%) and Rio Grande do Sul (16.8%).

Santa Catarina remains the leading state in pig slaughter, with 29.8% of the national share, followed by Paraná (22.3%) and Rio Grande do Sul (17.1%).

Pig slaughter fell by 1.8% year-on-year.

In 2023, 57.17 million head of pigs were slaughtered, representing an increase of 1.3% compared to 2022 and a new record for the survey.

Significant increases were also recorded in pig slaughter and pork production, as well as a slight increase in apparent consumption.
