The goal of the Manure Management Financial Assistance Program (MMFAP) is to help pig producers build and repair manure storage structures that eliminate the need for winter application. Also, by encouraging the adoption of manure treatment systems, producers are in a better position to reduce soil phosphorus on their land. This program will help reduce the risk of water contamination.
This program is supported by a three year investment by the federal and provincial governments (cost-shared 60-40). The Government of Canada will make almost $16 million available through the Agricultural Flexibility fund, a key component of Canada's Economic Action Plan, to finance the acquisition of manure treatment systems. The Province of Manitoba will provide more than $10 million for the building and repair of manure storage structures.
